Date: Friday 17th April 2015: Isaiah B Brunt
Style: Blues & Roots
Musical Background: Isaiah B Brunt has been a top Aussie production guy and former studio owner of Darling Harbour studios who'd worked along side some of Australia's top groups including solo projects by Rob Hirst, Midnight Oil, Steve Prestwich, Cold Chisel, Julio Iglesias and his Orchestra, American Idols Randy Jackson and Goo Goo Dolls have rehearsed there during Australian tours. Not only has Isaiah been behind the board for globally upper echelon bands he has been a go-to side man for bands touring down under like the time Keanu Reeves band Dog Star hit Sydney and Isaiah recorded them aiding them on their shows around Sydney. All the while he was working with other peoples music, Isaiah alyways knew where his heart lay. The same place it first was when he heard his father strum the ukelele, blow harmonica and unleash the lap steel.
Isaiah was the 2010 Sydney Blues Society's Performer of the Year and some of you may have caught him at the 2011 IBC, probably the best dressed cat in Memphis and good enough musically to be one if the very few to be reviewed in The Memphis Daily.
Date: Friday 10th April 2015: Jack Derwin
Style: Blues & Roots
Musical Background: Born and raised in the suburbs of Sydney, Jack perfected his skills as a musician throughout his teenage years when he found himself inevitably moving to north western NSW, Australia. Turning to music and writing music from the age of 14, Jack's overwhelming presence grabbed the attention of everyone he knew as he displayed his musical talents to the masses. He began his career through the inspiration of his new awe-inspiring surroundings, heritage and acoustic greats like Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and John Martyn. It wasn't too long though, before Jack began developing his own, unique style that carried him beyond anything he could ever hope to dream of.
His talent soon saw him touring through coastal and rural Australia, Germany and the USA, as he played with many different bands and combos over the years. His standard and open tunings on guitars that embellish his percussive playing, or the simplicity of slide and finger style; and the haunting or raunchy harmonica entwined in the mix appealed to the country folk, the sea dwellers and city folk alike.
Their love gained his first independent CD "With My Eyes" extensive airplay in rural NSW eventually in the video clip for "Lonely Boy", which aired nationally on Television. Along with the exposure of his songs, Jack received his own Television experience playing with his earlier duo "Percusso" for the "International Year of Peace".
Jack has played with many different bands and combos over the years. The distinct similarity between all these combos is Jack's style of playing and influence on these bands: Mostly the driving force, mostly upfront, and bold in presentation with guitar to match.
In 2011 Jack Derwin signed with "Blue Pie Records"
Gareth Jay is a Sydney based emerging acoustic Blues and Indie musician. Originally from Bathurst, NSW, Gareth attributes his love for music to his family and growing up singing together.
Since moving to Sydney in 2009 he has been developing his original music through recording and performance. Finding himself most at home in Blues music, he takes influence and technique from Jazz, Classical, Pop, R&B and Indie music. In 2011 he moved into Looping which has allowed Gareth to progressively layer guitar melodies, and vocal harmonies to create complex and inspired compositions in his live performances.
Currently he can be found most nights of the week performing in restaurants, pubs, and clubs. Deriving his influences from some of the greats including Albert King, Elliott Smith, Donovan, Carol King, The Beatles, and Dr John. His original music falls in a spectrum of styles each with a true honesty ringing through the songs.
In November 2014 Gareth Jay was invited to perform for Balcony TV which he sang a heart-felt track “It’s not me, it’s you.”
2015 has seen Gareth Jay take his music to another level, in February he independently released his self titled EP. The EP provides a delicate taste of Blues for those who crave it, and an introduction to Gareth himself.
“Aussie blues is as strong as ever, thanks to emerging talents like Gareth Jay” Tone Deaf.
